"Friends of the Earth groups consist of ordinary people who volunteer some time to try to improve the environment locally, nationally and internationally.  There is a role for everybody in a local group, regardless of the amount of time they have available, their experience and their knowledge of environmental issues.  The only thing that all Friends of the Earth local people have in common is a commitment to our natural environment and a determination to protect it and improve it".

Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea Friends of the Earth welcome new members both active and non-active. Subscription is £10pa, all members receive a copy of Change Your World  the quarterly magazine for FoE local group members.  You do not have to be a national member to join a local group.  You might find it helpful to read our charter.

Our Meetings

We do our best to keep our meetings as upbeat as possible and often have guest speakers.   However, we do have to discuss the nitty-gritty.  Agenda items are allocated timings and the chair person will ensure that these are adhered so that the meeting doesn't over-run.  The minutes of the meeting are usually circulated within a week or two of the meeting, we try to stick to one page.  We meet on Wednesdays every other month, the dates of the next meeting are on the home page along with our address and a map.  Unfortunately the venue for our meetings has a flight of stairs and is not wheelchair accessible.

Actions

In order for changes to happen both here and abroad, pressure needs to be put on MPs and MEPs (Members of European Parliament).   We run stalls or go out onto the streets asking people to sign postcards to MPs, we write to MPs ourselves and even occasionally pay them a visit.  Our stalls also raise people's awareness of environmental issues.  We take part in marches, rallies and demonstrations.  It is not necessary to attend  meetings to take part in our actions.
